How much and how often you need to add mineral, depends on how low the pHs and how much water you use. But the average homeowner tells us that they add minerals about once per year. This mineral is different than typical calcite filters. If a calcite filter was installed and did not get the pH up as high as you needed it, such as in iron, sulfur or manganese backwashing filters. You would add this upgraded type unit AFTER the existing calcite filter. It has a more aggressive mineral to raise the pH further. The correct usage is to place it after the existing calcite filter so you don't use so much of the calcite plus upgraded mineral.
